Introduction
Ranthambhore – one of the largest National Parks in Northern India, situated in Sawai Madhopur, southern district of Rajasthan.
National Park Area: 392 km (151 sq mi) including buffer zone
Tiger Reserve Area: 1334 km
Altitude: 215 to 505 meters above sea level
Wildlife: besides Tigers other major wildlife includes, leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, hyena, sloth bear and chital.
Ranthambhore was established in 1955 as the ‘Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary and was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973. In 1980, Ranthambhore becase National Park. In 1984, the adjacent forests were declared the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary, and in 1991 the tiger reserve enlarged to include Sawai Man Singh and Keladevi sanctuaries.
Ranthambhore wildlife sanctuary – known for its tigers and one of the best places in India to see the Tigers in the jungle. Best time to visit Ranthambhore National Park is in Novermber and May when the nature of the dry deciduous forest makes tiger sightings common.
The national park lies at the edge of a plateau and is bounded by the Banas River in the north and the Chambal River in the South. There are many lakes in the park and it is named for the historic Ranthambhore fortress, which lies inside National Park.
Ranthambhore National Park - also a site for one of the largest Banyan trees in India.

The Ranthambhore National Park consists typical dry deciduous elements with anogeissus pendula forests – a dominant tree species. However, along with water bodies, mix deciduous elements could be seen in the valleys. The Flora of the Park is represented by about 539 species of flowering plants.
Tigers
Ranthambhore - one of the best national parks in the country to spot a tiger.
Jungle Safari
Jeep Safari (6 seater open top Gypsy) timings are: 0630 hrs & 1430 hrs.
Each ride is for 3 hrs with a naturalist. Chances are less of not sighting a tiger in one outing, it is suggested to take minimum 2 nights stay in Ranthambhore with minimum 3 jungle safari.

Ranthambore Fort
The majestic Ranthambore Fort was built in 10th century. The fort stands at a height of 700 ft above the surrounding plain. There are three red Karauli stone temples devoted to Ganesh, Shiva and Ramlalaji, inside the fort. These temples were constructed in 12th & 13th centuries.
Padam Talao
Padam Talao – a lake, the largest of all the lakes inside Ranthambore National Park, and a beautiful red sandstone Jogi Mahal is located at the very edge of this lake. India’s second largest Banyan tree is here near the lake.
