INTRODUCTION
Nepal is a country of amazing extremes. There are the world's highest
mountains including Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest 8848 m.). Enchantment
is everywhere, be it on the shoulders of high mountains, on terraced
farmlands meticulously carved like stairways out of hill ridges, on
cascading mountain rivulets and rushing rivers or in forests full

The Kathmandu valley has
an exotic setting. It is surrounded by tier upon tier
of green mountain walls above which tower mighty snow
capped peaks. It consists of three main cities of great
historic, and cultural interest Kathmandu, Lalitpur (Patan)
and Bhaktapur. It covers an area of 218 sq. Miles. It
is situated at 1336 m. above the sea level. Kathmandu,
the capital of Nepal, is named after Kasthmandap, an imposing
pagoda near Hanuman Dhoka Palace. The city was built in
its presents form by Gunakama Dev in 723 A. D. |

"The valley of the lakes",
linked by Prithvi Rajmarg is situated 210 Kms. South west
of Kathmandu. The scenic valley of Pokhra is an enormous
sunlit play ground covered by green forested hills, waterfalls
and terraced fields. The beauty of the valley at 900 m
is further enhanced by its three lakes Phewa, Begnas and
Rupa. Pokhra also offers excellent views of Dhaulagiri,
Himalchuli, the five peaks of Annapurna and Machapuchare. |

Situated at 7133 ft., is
a 75 minutes picturesque drive from Kathmandu with a spectacular
view of Himalayas- Langtang, Dorjee, Lakpa, Gauri Shankar.
On a clear day one can see Mt. Everest. The best way to
see the sunrise and Himalayas is to stay for an overnight
at Nagarkot. |

Situated at 5500 ft., 30 Kms. north east of Kathmandu
on the Arniko Highway. A scenic and medieval town. Dhulikhel
offers a complete panoramic view of the snow capped ranges
from Karyolung in the east to Himalchuli in the west.

It lies 80 Kms. south-west of Kathmandu on Tribhuvan Rajpath.
This is a proper place to see the view of world famous
Himalayas, from far west of Dhaulagiri to the east of
Mount Everest. There is a tower fitted with a long range
telescope for the entertainment of Tourists. Daman can
be reached within 4 hours from Kathmandu. |

Jomsom is situated on the
Bank of Kali Gandaki valley, lies at an altitude of 2713
m. One can see village Thini (2895 m.) and excellent view
of the magnificent peaks of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna
and typical villages. Jomsom is connected by Air from
Pokhra or it takes about 7 days trek to reach from Pokhra. |

Muktinath located at a
height of 3749 m. to north-east of Jomsom, is a paradise
of natural beauty. It attracts Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims
and trekkers. It is really interesting to see Jwala Devi,
the goddess of burning fire in Muktinath. It takes 7/8
hrs. walk from Jomsom or Pony can be arranged.

Gorkha is a hill bazaar and the ancestral home of the
Shah dynasty which rules Nepal today. It is from here
that King Prithvi Narayan Shah started his conquest of
the country's various tiny kingdoms and unified them into
a single nation, Nepal. Perched one thousand feet above
Gorkha Bazaar, the palace dominates the surroundings and
is visible from all around the area.

Janakpur is the capital
of the ancient state of Mithila and the Janaki Temple,
located in the center of the city, is well known in the
Hindu Kingdom. Sita the wife of the legendary hero Ram
was born in Janakpur.

Tansen is a small town
of approximately twenty thousand people. It is on the
way from Pokhra to Lumbini, and it is not too far from
the Royal Chitwan National Park. Located 4300 meters above
sea level, on the south flank of Srinagar Hill, the greatest
attractions of this town are its ancient culture, friendly
people, excellent mountain views, and above all, its serene
atmosphere. The weather remains moderate throughout the
year, and it is a pleasant place to visit in any season.

Shakyamuni Buddha was born in Lumbini, in southern Nepal,
twenty-five hundred years ago.
Lumbini has since been a holy ground for Buddhists all
over the world. The restored garden and surroundings of
Lumbini have the remains of many of the ancient stupas
and monasteries. A large stone pillar erected by the Indian
Emperor Ashoka in 250 BC hears an inscription about the
birth of the Buddha. |

| ROYAL CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK (Area 932 sq. kms) |
Situated 170 Kms. south-west of Kathmandu. Activities include Wildlife
safaris on elephant back in the Chitwan jungle home to the royal Bengal
tiger, Leopard, Wild Elephant, Black buck, Blue bull, Swamp deer,
Chital, Sambar, Ghoral, Crocodile, the one horned Rhino, Wild boar
and a rich reserve of bird life.
Canoe ride in the nearby river offer tranquil way of viewing river
oriented wild life such as the Marsh Mugger, Charial, Crocodiles,
Gangetic Dolphins and the otter.
Besides this other activities are jungle drive in Land Rovers, Bird
watching, Nature walk and visit to a local native village.

| Other National Parks & Wildlife Reserves in NEPAL |
- Sagarmatha National Park
(Area 1,148 sq. kms) - located to the north-east of Kathmandu
in Khumbu region of Nepal. The park includes the highest peak
in the world, Mt. Sagarmatha (Everest).
- Langtang National Park
(Area 1,710 sq. kms) - situated in the Central Himalaya. Langtang
is the nearest park from Kathmandu. The area extends from 32 km
north of Kathmandu to the Nepal-China (Tibet) border.
- Royal Bardiya National Park
(Area 968 sq. kms) - situated in the mid far western Terai,
east of the Karnali River.
- Shey-Phoksundo National Park
(Area 3,555 sq. kms) - situated in the mountain region of
western Nepal, covering parts of Dolpa and Mugu Districts. It
is the largest national park in the country.
