What is the Pushkar Camel Fair?

Pushkar Camel Fair, also known as Pushkar Fair or Pushkar Mela is a world’s largest Camel fair which has a unique gathering of coveted ‘ship of the desert’.

The largest fair is held every year in the month of October and November. This year also the festival is going to be celebrated from 4th to 12th November 2019. It is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage festival which is celebrated with great pomp & show.

Every year nearly half-a-million visitors turn up to the land of the tiny desert town of Pushkar in Rajasthan to explore the vibrant sand dunes of the place & to attend the festival.

How to reach Pushkar Camel Fair

By Road: Pushkar city is well-connected to the national highways of Rajasthan. A no. of local buses runs from Pushkar to major cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur & Ajmer from Ajmer bus stand. The place has better connectivity to the cities like Ahmadabad, Delhi, Bikaner, Jaipur & a few more.

One can also choose a picturesque drive to the venue through the car from nearby Snake Mountain which hardly takes about 20-30minutes to reach the fairground.

By Air: Airport located at Kishangarh receives several/frequent flights coming from major cities like Delhi & other places surrounding Rajasthan.

By Train: Nearest railway station to Pushkar is Ajmer.  It has a train connecting to some of the major cities of Rajasthan.

Competitions and Activities in Pushkar Mela

The town of Pushkar also starts to swell especially around the temples during fair days as pilgrims start arriving to take part in religious offerings at the fair.

Official events for worldwide visitors continue at the stadium, and amusement park rides, folk dances, music performances, and other entertainment which include turban-tying contests, entertaining visitors and locals.
